A young girl that was bitten by a dog will not have to be put through a series of rabies shots.

The six-year-old was bitten at Airport Park in Colchester while she was sitting on a tire swing. The girl was hospitalized with what police call a bi gash on her back. Police began searching for the dog and the owner to verify the animal was vaccinated.

The dog owner has been identified and the police were able to verify that the dog was up-to-date on all of its shots. Police say the girl is okay and she will not have to undergo any treatment for possible rabies exposure.
