What can you do to prevent the devastating dog bites that our Toledo, Ohio personal injury attorneys see on a regular basis? Being smart around dogs could help you avoid serious personal injury.

Tips from the Human Society on how to prevent a dog bite include standing still instead of running away from an approaching dog, and refraining from waving arms or yelling at the animal.

If a dog is starting to attack you, the American Kennel Club instructs the victim to curl up on the ground in the fetal position, using the hands to cover the face and major arteries in the neck, and not to make eye contact with the dog.

The AKC also recommends leaving alone dogs that are sleeping, eating, or caring for their puppies in order to prevent personal injury from dog bites. Encourage children to ask permission before petting any dog, and never leave a child unattended with animals.

Another thing that you could do is to stop making people believe that there is some kind of dog bite epidemic going on.
The truth is - the incidence and frequency of dog attacks has remained relatively consistent over the last century, regardless of the popularity or involvement of certain breeds of dogs.
More ... More ...
Furthermore, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:

In 2005, 83 children died from maltreatment in Ohio.

In a SINGLE YEAR (2005), more than SEVEN TIMES as many children died from maltreatment (abuse/neglect) than the TOTAL of ALL fatal dog attacks in Ohio over the past 43 years.

So, are dogs a real danger? In fact, people in Ohio routinely accept far greater risks from ATVs, bicycles, and swimming pools than any that are associated with companion animals.
I know this is Tom Skeldon Territory but come on.
