We hope you and your family have a happy Fourth of July!

But as you're celebrating our country's independence, please make sure you avoid injuries by following the following tips offered by Ohio State Fire Marshall Michael Bell:

- Adults should supervise children who are handling novelty devices.

- Light only one sparkler at a time and hold it away from your body.

- Place sparkler wires in a bucket of water after they burn out in order to avoid burns.

- If someone is burned, run the burned area under cool water for a few minutes and seek medical attention if necessary.

Keep in mind that in Ohio, exhibitor fireworks such as aerial shells that are fired from mortars, can only be discharged by a licensed exhibitor. State law also bars discharging firecrackers, bottle rockets, roman candles, and fountains.
