A 1-month-old Toledo baby suffered a wrongful death Saturday after a car accident with a school bus, according to the Toledo Blade. The baby was sitting on her grandmother's lap in the front passenger seat when the bus struck the family's minivan in south Toledo. It is unknown if the baby's family or the bus driver suffered any personal injury. There were no children on the bus at the time of the accident. Our Toledo, Ohio personal injury attorneys have seen cases involving unrestrained children, and we stress the importance of following the life-saving law of car seat use for kids.

Ohio law requires all children who are either under four years of age or weigh under 40 pounds to ride in a child seat or booster seat anytime they are being transported by a motor vehicle. Car accidents are the number one killer of children in the US, but having your child properly restrained in the appropriate car or booster seat can increase their odds of surviving a car accident by 71%, according to seatcheck.org. It is a good idea to have the car seat checked to make sure it is properly installed, to ensure your child's safety in the event of a car accident. The Toledo Hospital offers child safety seat inspections by appointment. To schedule, call 419-291-5993 or visit www.safekids.org, or visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for other locations in your area.
